Korea and Spain established diplomatic relations in March 1950. Therefore, 2020 is a special year as the two countries are celebrating the 70th anniversary of friendship. The two countries have been looking for ways to cooperate more actively than ever recently spurred by Spain's King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia making a state visit to Korea in October of last year. King Felipe VI and President Moon Jae-in promised enhanced cooperation in a variety of sectors including science technology, culture, economy etc. Celebrating the special 70th anniversary, the two sides have also planned various events for culture and exchange. Although some of these events have been canceled due to COVID-19, Ambassador Juan Ignacio MORRO is hoping that the Spanish Film Festival in Korea, scheduled for September, will go on as planned adding that he would like to see the two sides continue to share each other's abundant cultural heritages.
