President Moon Jae-in has expanded the scope of investigation into recent land speculation allegations involving a state housing corporation so that it also covers Blue House officials and their family members.
A senior CheongWaDae official said on Friday that a separate task force led by the Presidential Chief of Staff has been formed to support the government probe.
Two civic groups have accused employees at the Korea Land and Housing Corporation, or LH, of using internal information to buy undeveloped land in two metropolitan cities before those areas were designated as development zones for new towns.
The president had initially ordered a probe into officials at the Land Ministry, LH and related public corporations.
The additional orders on the matter are likely a reflection of the severity of the issue, given that the Moon administration has long pledged to root out illicit practices, including real estate speculation.
