North Korea fears it could see a resurgence of COVID-19, after leader Kim Jong-un declared victory over the virus last month.
According to the North's official newspaper, Rodong Sinmun on Thursday, the regime has called on all officials, workers, and citizens to voluntarily take COVID-19 tests on a regular basis to prevent further outbreaks.
It added that testing is an essential requirement for strengthening the quarantine process.
Watchers say, however, the country currently faces a shortage of PCR tests.
North Korea has also raised concerns over a possible 'twindemic' during the winter season.
Mask wearing is currently not mandatory there, but is strongly recommended.
