China has halted ties with the U.S. on a wide range of critical issues, from talks on the climate change crisis to dialogue between their militaries following U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China on Friday announced eight countermeasures against the U.S., including sanctions on Pelosi and her immediate family members, in accordance with relevant laws of Beijing.
Tensions are running high in the Taiwan Strait as the Taiwan Defense Ministry said on Friday that 68 Chinese fighter jets and 13 warships crossed the median line that runs down the strait.
Following this, the U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken urged Beijing to back down saying that China's military drills represent a "significant escalation."
