S. Korea reports over 100,000 new COVID-19 cases again Updated: 2022-08-06 17:11:42 KST

The nation's daily COVID-19 tally hovers above 100-thousand for the fifth consecutive day.
110,666 new infections pushing the total caseload beyond 20.3-8 million.
South Korea, with a population of 51.6 million, reached that grim milestone on Wednesday, 2 and a half years after the first case was reported in January 2020.
According to the KDCA, Saturday's figure is slightly down from Friday but jumped 1.3-5 times on-week.
The recent spike is mainly driven by the spread of the highly contagious omicron subvariant BA-5.
The number of virus deaths was 45, raising that total to over 25-thousand.
The fatality rate was Point-1-2 percent.
Seriously ill cases stood at 313.
