South Korea's new administration has presented a range of new energy goals and policies.
These were announced during a cabinet meeting on Tuesday presided over by President Yoon Suk-yeol and include a response to climate change, strengthened energy security, and the creation of new energy industries.
A commitment to resurrecting South Korea's nuclear energy sector was also discussed with a goal of generating 30-percent of the nation's energy needs by 2030 set,.. up from around 27-percent in 2021.
The government is hoping to decrease the country's dependency on fossil fuel imports with a more feasible mix of nuclear, renewable, and hydrogen energy.
Officials say such policies are crucial at times when the global energy supply chain is threatened.
