Starting early today until the end of the Lunar New Year holiday, an average of around 4.8 million people per day are expected to travel.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport predict a total of 28.7 million people will travel over the holiday period, with the daily figure increasing 17-percent from last year.
Meanwhile, Seoul Metropolitan city government said on Thursday that it will extend the crackdown on cars that use the bus-only lane of Gyeongbu Expressway's Banpo IC to Yangjae IC.
Usually bus-only lanes are monitored from 7AM to 9PM, but from Saturday to next Wednesday, surveillance will be extended for four more hours -- until 1AM.
Traffic laws state that the minimum requirement for using bus-only lanes are vehicles with a minimum of nine seats, and at least six occupants.
