South Korea added its highest ever number of COVID-19 cases on Saturday at 5,352.
The number of critically ill patients and the number of deaths were also the highest.
Capital Seoul recorded the highest ever figures of well over 22-hundred.
And there have been three more cases confirmed to be the Omicron variant, with a total of 9 patients reported so far.
With the surging cases, the country is returning to stricter disease prevention measures for four weeks starting from Monday.
The social gathering capacity will be reduced and only fully vaccinated people or those who have proof of a negative PCR test will be allowed to go into restaurants, cafes, and a number of other public facilities.
