Pentagon says deterrence is important; no changes to mention on N. Korea Updated: 2021-11-30 08:02:25 KST

The U.S. has reaffirmed its nuclear umbrella policy for deterring North Korea remains unchanged.
At a briefing Monday, Deputy Secretary of Defense Mara Karlin said, "Containing expansion is absolutely important" and there are no changes to report.
She also mentioned Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin's visit to South Korea where he will join talks this week, with deterrence policies on the agenda.
Austin will attend South Korea-U.S. defense talks to be held in Seoul on Thursday to discuss the transition of wartime operational control and defense cooperation.
