In-depth: Global market wrap-up Updated: 2021-10-25 13:48:08 KST

Time now for an in-depth look at the market news this afternoon.
And for that, I'm joined on the line by Dr. Yang Jun-sok, Professor of Economics at The Catholic University of Korea.
Professor Yang, good afternoon. Thank you for coming on today.

Thank you.

Let's start with the equity markets. Stocks on Wall Street ended last Friday mixed for the day. A new high for the Dow, but some investors taking profits coming off a new all-time high for the S&P, and weakness in the tech shares on the Nasdaq. What's the story in the global markets?

Today, the KOSPI closed higher by about half a percent. The KOSDAQ a little lower. Foreign investors buying, and we'll be looking forward to earnings this week from some big companies. Notably the currency has continued to gain strength. Tell us about the domestic market.

We've seen some volatility in the crypto sector the past few days with Bitcoin coming off its recent high. Investors perhaps taking a breather, but some saying it's going to cool off for a while. What's your outlook for the crypto space right now?

Finally, professor, in the coming days we'll have data from the Bank of Korea on the country's real GDP for the third quarter, and that's expected to show continued growth. Tell us about that and what else is on your radar in the week ahead.
