S. Korea confirms 2,885 new cases of COVID-19 as of Wednesday Updated: 2021-09-29 17:11:50 KST

South Korea on Wednesday reported its second-highest daily number of coronavirus cases to date at 2,8-hundred-85.
Of those, 77 percent were in the greater Seoul area.
The previous all-time high was about a week ago at nearly 33-hundred.
There's been a rise in breakthough infection, meaning those in people who've been fully vaccinated.
In the last week, there have been almost 19-hundred such cases.
In total, more than 77-hundred breakthrough infections have been reported so far.
And though the virus is still spreading at a relatively high rate, the effect of the vaccines is becoming clear in terms of preventing deaths.
The fatality rate, which last December had been at 2.7 percent came down in August to zero.3-5 percent.
