South Korea reported 2,8-hundred-85 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday of which all but 26 were locally transmitted.
This is the second highest daily caseload reported for the country, with the highest, at over 32-hundred cases, coming just last week.
This keeps the daily average caseload for the past week well above the two-thousand mark.
With the continued high number of infections health authorities have decided to extend the operation of 17 large scale makeshift screening centers located at transportation hubs across the nation to end of October.
This comes as South Korea looks forward to two consecutive long holiday weekends again prompting concerns over massive movement from citizens.
