National Assembly passes law to set up parliamentary branch in Sejong Updated: 2021-09-28 17:04:17 KST

A parliament complex will be built in the city of Sejong, as lawmakers on Tuesday approved a law partially relocating the Seoul-based National Assembly there.
Parliament speaker Park Byeong-seug said the Sejong parliament complex will become the "center of equitable national growth".
Over 12 million U.S. dollars will immediately go into designing the complex, which will have a site that's double the size of the current parliament in Seoul's Yeouido.
11 standing committees and the budget committee are likely to move first.
Construction is expected to take about 5 years.
Since 2012, a number of government agencies have relocated to Sejong in efforts to decentralize power and development.
