Britain has barred the Chinese ambassador from attending an event at the UK parliament, citing Beijing's sanctions on British organizations and individuals.
The Chinese envoy had been due to speak at Parliament on Wednesday, but his invitation was rescinded a day earlier.
The UK said it will continue to ban the ambassador while Beijing's sanctions remain in place.
China imposed sanctions on British politicians, lawyers and an academic in March, when they condemned human rights abuses against Uighur Muslims in Xinjiang region.
The Chinese embassy in London called the decision "cowardly and despicable".
