A combined naval exercise between the South Korean Navy and a British aircraft carrier strike group is taking place this week in the East Sea.
The British aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth is taking part in the joint training for humanitarian and disaster relief missions.
Seoul's defense ministry said Monday the U.S. will not take part in the exercise despite earlier local media reports suggesting otherwise.
The British naval ships had originally planned a port call in Busan, but that was called off due to surging COVID-19 cases.
Instead, the two countries are conducting scaled-back exchanges from Monday through Wednesday.
