Among all the South Korean Olympians who competed Wednesday, badminton player, (허광희) Heo Kwang-hee, arguably made the biggest splash internationally as he beat world number one, Momota Kento, on his homesoil.
Heo, ranked world number 38, beat the odds to defeat Kento in straight sets to eliminate the two-time world champion in the group stage.
Heo is now into the quarter finals and Kento's early exit leaves a podium spot up for grabs.
Kento is a national icon in Japan, winning praise both on and off the court, having the honor of carrying the Olympic flag during the opening ceremony.
