Britain's Royal Mail trialling drones to deliver test kits and PPE to remote areas Updated: 2021-05-11 10:13:41 KST

Welcome, it's time for the 'World Now'. Bringing you some of the most interesting news from around the globe, I'm Eum Ji-young.
Britain's Royal Mail postal service is trying to go further so fewer people miss out due to COVID-19.
The courier company is trialing drones to deliver health and safety equipment, coronavirus test kits and other items to some of the most remote communities in the Isles of Scilly, an area where traditional services take much more time to deliver to.

"With deliveries, I think anyone in deliveries, doing deliveries over here will agree that we need help."

Parcels are flown to the islands' airport in St. Mary's by a large fixed-wing drone that can carry up to 100 kilograms of mail at a time.
Then a smaller drone is used to reach several delivery points throughout the island.
This is the first time that an out-of-sight, autonomous scheduled drone flight was applied to deliver between the UK mainland and an island.
The company is considering adopting the technology to support postal workers delivering to remote areas across the UK.
