India records highest number of infection cases; UK to allow int'l travel from May 17 Updated: 2021-05-08 12:10:07 KST

India is seeing surging Covid cases, adding hundreds of thousands of cases every day, particularly around the end of their holy month of Ramadan.
Some were seen attending a religious service without wearing masks nor maintaining distance from others.
Britain, in the meantime, has put 12 countries on its "green list" for travel, including Portugal and Israel, meaning people will not have to quarantine upon their return.
And it will allow international travel to resume from May 17.
Japan, on the other hand, has extended the state of emergency imposed on Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, and Hyogo prefectures until the end of this month due to higher infection rates ahead of the Summer Olympics.
