S. Korea "deeply concerned" over Japan's plan to dump contaminated water from Fukushima into ocean Updated: 2021-04-12 17:59:08 KST

The South Korean foreign ministry has expressed deep concern over Japan's plan, reportedly now all but approved, to dump radioactive water from the Fukushima nuclear plant into the ocean.
That plan is expected to be announced tomorrow after a meeting of Japanese government ministers.
The foreign ministry in Seoul said that it would be unacceptable for Tokyo to decide to release the water without sufficiently consulting with its neighbors, citing the safety of the South Korean people and the environment.
It said it will strengthen its monitoring of the issue, while continuing to work with the IAEA, which Japan has asked to certify that the radioactive water is safe.
