The World Bank has projected China's economic growth to fall sharply to 2.3 percent this year, a sharp drop from 6.1 percent in 2019.
Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, a baseline scenario of 2.3 percent and a 0.1 percent gain in the lower-case scenario has been projected for China's economy in 2020.
According to the World Bank's East Asia and the Pacific Region economist Aaditya Mattoo, the effects of the pandemic could bring economic growth to a halt across the whole region and drive as many as 11 million people into poverty.
