COVID-19 may dampen trade prospects further: WTO Updated: 2020-02-18 13:23:43 KST

The World Trade Organization says that because of the coronavirus, global trade in merchandise is likely to remain weak in the early part of this year.
According to the WTO Trade Goods Barometer, the real-time measure of trade trends stands at 95.5 which is well below the baseline value of 100.
The WTO said the performance could be reduced further by what it called a "new global health threat," namely COVID-19.
It added that the barometer will be influenced by the economic impact of the virus and the effectiveness of efforts to contain it.
