South Korea's first COVID-19 vaccine candidate (Sky-ko-vee-won) SKYCovione could clear its final approval this week.
The National Institute of Food and Drug Safety Evaluation said Monday that they will decide in the coming days whether to approve the vaccine candidate.
The shot, developed by SK Bioscience, has successfully gone through all three phases of its clinical trial.
It has also received an approval recommendation from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety's Central Pharmaceutical Review Committee.
The committee said the vaccine candidate's neutralizing antibody response is almost three times better than AstraZeneca's shot.
Once approved, SK Bioscience plans to commercialize the vaccine some time in the second half of the year.
