Canada and France plan to deploy patrol aircraft to discourage illegal ship-to-ship transfers by North Korea.
Japan's foreign ministry said Friday that Canada will deploy its aircraft for about a month using Japan's Kadena Air Base to monitor illicit maritime activities.
These activities include ship-to-ship transfers of items such as coal and oil to North Korean-flagged vessels, which is prohibited by United Nations Security Council resolutions.
This is the sixth time since 2018 that Canada is engaging in such activities.
The ministry had also said on Thursday that France will do the same until early-November using Futenma Air Station in Japan.
