Creative methods to boost S. Korea's rice consumption

These children are taking an art class that's run by South Korea's Rural Development Administration, which mainly uses play dough made of rice powder and food coloring.
The dough is completely free of harmful chemicals.
"It is 100% safe as it's made of edible materials. The salt we use is all thermally processed, so it's safe in summer."
The state-run program also shows a way to make yogurt out of rice.
This method is developed for people who are lactose-intolerant and those who prefer a vegan diet.
The probiotics for the yogurt are extracted from Korea's soybean paste, which means they are rich in nutrients.
"Every crop strengthens the effect of an amino acid called Lysine. It's one of the essential amino acids that our body does not naturally synthesize, so it must be consumed from food."
Research is underway to come up with other ways of using rice to substitute barley and wheat in making beer and bread.
On the sideline, developers are also looking at which types of rice are best for specific culinary purposes.
As more rice-based options are expected to be developed in the near future, many industry insiders in South Korea are optimistic that the nation will diversify ways to use rice and increase rice consumption.
