The World Health Organization has thanked the Japanese government and International Olympic Committee for making a tough decision to postpone the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Speaking at an on-line media briefing on Wednesday, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus lauded the decision made to protect the safety of athletes and fans.
IOC President Thomas Bach said the committee is currently exploring all options before confirming a new timeframe.
Admitting that rescheduling Tokyo 2020 is like a "huge jigsaw puzzle," he added new dates will not be restricted to the summer months.
