South Korea's National Security Council has discussed follow-up measures to the military's decision to send the country's anti-piracy Cheonghae Unit to the Strait of Hormuz.
Chaired by presidential security chief Chung Eui-yong, the standing committee of the NSC agreed to enhance dialogue with related nations and work to secure the safety of South Koreans and ships in the region.
The presidential office said the NSC also reviewed ways to draw practical outcomes in the peace process of the Korean Peninsula and help spur nuclear negotiations between North Korea and the U.S.
