Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono says South Korea's decision to stop sharing military intel with Japan is "extremely regrettable."
According to Kyodo News, Kono told reporters that by pulling out Seoul is "completely misreading the security situation in Northeast Asia."
He also summoned South Korea's ambassador to Japan late Thursday to lodge an official complaint.
Seoul had said Tokyo's removal of South Korea from the list of its preferred trading partners was a "grave change" to their cooperation on security.
But Kono said the two matters are completely separate and Seoul's claims are unacceptable.
