As the protests in Hong Kong continue, it seems a growing number of locals are seeking to relocate to nearby countries.
The South China Morning Post reported Sunday that the number of Hong Kong residents who applied to live or stay in Taiwan increased by nearly 46 percent in June and July this year, compared to 2018.
As of mid-August, over 2-thousand Hong Kongers filed an application, with nearly all of them approved.
The paper said Taiwan's immigration authorities are speeding up the processing of their documents, encouraging Hong Kong people and students to apply for short-term stays.
