Episode 58 S. Korea-Japan spat takes dangerous turn, could progress be made?

Seoul-Tokyo tensions are escalating as Japan is refusing to draw back its exports curbs against South Korea. The South Korean government, firms, and people are firmly standing against Japan for carrying out retaliatory measures in response to some South Korean-related issues, including the victims of Japan’s forced labor. On July 7th, a meeting took place between South Korea’s presidential chief of staff for policy and business leaders, and President Moon Jae-in warned Tokyo that Seoul is vying countermeasures. Meanwhile, South Korean consumers have started to boycott Japanese goods, and the bilateral escalation is mounting faster than ever with Japan having alleged South Korea might have violated North Korean sanctions. We will talk further about this ongoing conflict and effects of the retaliatory measures with an expert.
