Novelist Hwang Sok-yong has personally lived through Korea's modern history. In that process, he shows us through his works that the language of literature vividly exposes the truth of history. Out of his many novels, this episode focuses on his works that are in line with his life story to listen to his voice within. We can see his living and breathing adolescence in Hesperus, his experience in the Vietnam War in The Shadow of Arms, and his take on society's regret on capitalism in At Dusk. We’ll take a closer look at the life and works of Hwang Sok-yong, a self-proclaimed prisoner locked up in a prison of time, language and a divided nation, and listen to literary critics explaining his works.
