Peace and Prosperity Ep.32
▶ Pyeongyang ratchets up pressure on Seoul and Washington

Kim Yong-chol, Vice Chairman of North Korea’s ruling Workers’ Party, who had been absent from the public eye since the failed Hanoi summit, released a statement on Oct. 27, warning the U.S. would be “seriously mistaken” to ignore the regime’s year-end deadline on nuclear talks. Kim’s statement came days after American B-52 strategic bombers flew over the East Sea in a show of force, raising tensions on the Korean Peninsula. Meanwhile, the North sent a notice telling the South to tear down its facilities at the North’s Mt. Geumgangsan resort, and rejected Seoul’s subsequent proposal to hold working-level talks over the issue.

To break down the latest developments, we are joined by joined by Go Myong-hyun, Research Fellow at the Asan Institute for Policy Studies. To broaden the perspective, we also connect with guest experts on Skype, including John Feffer, Director of Foreign Policy In Focus at the Institute for Policy Studies and Stephen Noerper, Senior Director of the Korea Society.
