Most Borrowed Library Books of 2020

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, operating hours of many libraries were heavily affected throughout 2020. Although people were unable to spend a relaxing moment reading books in the library, they instead turned to the contactless library lending system to enjoy reading books at home. Apparently, the most borrowed library books of 2020 were “Almond” (fiction) by Sohn Won-pyung and “The Good Discriminator” (non-fiction) by Kim Ji-hye. “Almond” offers a glimpse into living on life’s emotional extremes, while “The Good Discriminator” offers a picture of the hate and discrimination lying hidden in our lives. Meet the editors of the books to learn more about the books and their messages.

Turning a crisis into an opportunity! Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Fishing Festival

One of the most famous annual winter fishing festivals in Hwacheon county in Gyeonggi-do Province has been called off due to COVID-19. To handle all the cherry salmons caught for the festival, public servants of the Hwacheon Country office have offered their help. They decided to make various processed items, such as canned goods, semi-dried products, and meal kits using cherry blossoms, which are rarely found in the nearby markets. They plan to sell their products through various channels, including department stores, e-commerce platforms, and live commerce events. We meet with officials who tell us about their new challenge to reinvigorate the local economy.
