Lives and Rights of Citizens during the COVID-19 Era

The COVID-19 pandemic has generated the worst health, economic, and social crisis in our life time.
To view the pandemic from a citizen’s perspective, the People’s Health Institute published a white paper named “Lives of Citizens During the COVID-19 Era, and Our Rights.” About 20 experts across different fields examined the pandemic from the eyes of the weak for the sake of a more equal society, highlighting the rights everyone deserves. Meet the three chief researchers of the white paper – Kim Seong-i, Kim Jeong-woo and Choi Hong-jo – to learn more about our rights.

Reinvigorating the rural life

Seven young male adults have moved to a rural village of Joosung located in Hadong-gun county, Gyeonsangnam-do Province. Except for Choi Jun-ho, the other six men are either in their 30s or 40s. They all come from different cities, but they share the same mission to live together by forming an economic community in a secluded rural setting. They opened a Goha Burger & Cafe in a rice warehouse that has been deserted for decades. Their first goal is to sustain their life in the countryside. We meet with seven people who think of rural migration as a new opportunity and know how to find happiness in a slow-paced life.

Toothbrush-recycling ‘Blue Mailbox‘

The toothbrush that we use to keep our teeth clean is 70% plastic. But due to the variety of materials used to make its brush, handle, and other parts, nearly 4,300 tons of them are thrown away every year without being recycled. That is how the ‘Blue Mailbox’ campaign launched a movement to find ways to recycle the plastic brush. We look closely into the ‘Blue Mailbox’ campaign, which upcycles collected used toothbrushes into jump rope, retainer case, and plastic plant pot.
