Breaking Barriers through Film

What if we could watch a film through sound or subtitles?
The visual world of film, which is inaccessible to the blind and visually impaired, is transformed into sound and subtitles that narrate each and every action shown on the screen.
These films are called “barrier-free films,” and the 10th Seoul Barrier Free Film Festival opened in 2020. This year, the festival screens six barrier-free films and 12 short animated films to develop film culture and also to remind abled people of how many people miss out on cultural nourishment that they often take for granted.
Meet the festival to learn more about barrier-free films and the 2020 Seoul Barrier Free Film Festival.

Social Enterprise for the Environment & People

As COVID-19 hammers the economy, many companies are turning to an upcycling business model, which preserves resources and makes new values by using renewable materials. It is also an alternative form of environmental activism to keep Earth in a sustainable condition.
As upcycling startups are booming in Korea amid a high unemployment rate, grape lab is a company that is picking up the spotlight thanks to the unusually high rate of its employment rate of people with disabilities.
Grape lab not only makes renewable products using recycled paper, but also promote sustainable values that help us engage and live together with socially isolated and vulnerable people. We meet with grape lab CEO Kim Min-yang, who wishes to expand a network that connects small organizations for better cooperation and coexistence.

Oraegage, long-standing traditions in Seoul

Seoul city has newly selected 21 ‘Oraegages’ in its Northeastern region for people to visit and heal their weary minds from the prolonging pandemic. Oraegage is a new term coined with two words, meaning ‘a historic store’ or ‘a store that people wish to stay in business for a long time.’
Only shops in Seoul that have over 30 years of history, or run by a family of two generations, or stores that continue to preserve and promote a value or skills from a master or a person entitled intangible cultural asset by the Korean government, can be designated with the title.
We visit several stores that are newly selected as Oraegages this year.
