Ep.133 Myanmar civilians call for democracy as the world condemns the junta’s violence

As the military junta is seizing the Myanmar government for over a month after staging a coup in February, over 30 civilians have been killed, and some 1,130 people have been detained. As the military and police’s violent and inhumane measures to suppress the protesters resulted in the increase of civilian casualties, the protests against the military junta are becoming more widespread worldwide. Human rights activists are taking part in the movement using social media by posting pictures to inform the current situation within Myanmar. Meanwhile, the military junta has pressed additional charges against Aung San Suu Kyi to further pressure her and eliminate her political foothold. In Myanmar, there are some 3,500 Koreans and around 300 S. Korean enterprises. The South Korean foreign ministry said no South Koreans in the area had been affected yet as they continue to keep a close tab on the situation. As the global community strongly condemns the junta’s violence against civilians, we discuss the current development in Myanmar and hear from a civilian taking part in the rally in Yangon and a Korean resident in the Southeast Asian nation. We also invite experts to analyze the Myanmar crisis and the future of this tumultuous affair.
