South Korean President Moon Jae-in announced his ’New Southern Policy Plus’ strategy during the South Korea-ASEAN virtual summit. On the last day of the event, on November 15th, South Korea, ASEAN states, China, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand signed the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership eight years after they first held negotiations on the trade pact in 2012. The striking of the RCEP is significant as it resembles a key achievement of the New Southern Policy, an initiative President Moon promoted since his inauguration.
