The Hanoi summit, which started on a friendly note, eventually broke down without a joint declaration. The two countries failed to reach a consensus between North Korea's position to seek a full sanctions relief and America's demands for more substantial denuclearization measures. In particular, it's not clear whether President Trump, who has consistently stressed the need for speed control, decided to breakup the summit altogether rather than walk out with a smaller agreement. Nevertheless, Trump says relations between the two countries are still good and that future talks on denuclearization will continue. Is this backtrack a means to advance two steps forward in the future? On this week's [The Point: World Affairs], we analyze the reason behind the collapse of the negotiation and also project the future direction of denuclearization negotiations. We also connect to experts from neighboring countries like China, Japan and Russia to assess their reactions to the Hanoi summit.
