Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited China for the first time since taking office and met with Chinese President Xi Jinping. At the meeting, the two countries agreed to move on from an era of competition to that of cooperation and agreed that relations are "back to a normal track". Bilateral relations once reached an ultimate low back in 2012 when the Japanese government nationalized the Senkaku-Diaoyudao Island on its own terms. Despite the ongoing territorial dispute, what is driving both countries to try to mend ties?
