Korea’s COVID-19 testing kits have contributed to the infectious disease prevention and control by rapidly diagnosing the COVID-19 confirmed cases. And the domestically developed in vitro diagnostic technologies have recently been in the spotlight. A lot of domestic companies have focused efforts into developing testing kits, which can diagnose other diseases aside from the COVID-19 pandemic. Thanks to the COVID-19 testing kits developed in Korea, the domestic in vitro diagnostic technologies have also gained recognition in the global field. Most of the domestic test kits have used RT-PCR, or Real-Time Quantitive Polymerase Chain Reaction for the diagnosis of diseases. However, the newly developed diagnostic kit takes the samples of the suspected cases, carries out gene cloning and finds out the virus. Therefore, the signs of the coronavirus can be detected immediately. What is more, in vitro diagnostic technologies can be applied to people’s daily lives. When putting a drop of blood on a biosensor, the hemoglobin, blood sugar and cholesterol levels can be measured conveniently. Also, as it is connected to a mobile application, users can check the measured data. A diagnostic kit which enables an early diagnosis of cancer, has been developed. Instead of going through a complicated procedure, the test kit checks the expression of genes related to cancer by testing the blood. And it is expected to bring about huge changes to the medical industry. We introduce Korea’s in vitro diagnostic technologies, which have seized a lot of attention amid the continued spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Along with the COVID-19 spread, there’s been growing concerns over having direct contacts with others. And it has led to the rise of non-face-to-face consumption. Digital signage, which can deliver various information more rapidly and conveniently through impressive videos, has been closely connected with people’s daily lives. Digital signage, which is a tool for more effective delivery of information, has recently been used to provide information on the local district. The Nowon-gu district in Seoul has recently built a paper-less digital publicity board based on the digital signage, for the first time in the country. Instead of the existing ways that stick the paper to the wall, a remote management system has been introduced for real-time delivery of information in a form of an electronic document. Considering the growing popularity of non-face-to-face ordering services since the COVID-19 outbreak, a domestic coffee shop has introduced digital signage to keep the sales. Customers can check the menu with the digital menu board and give orders through video chatting. After the introduction of the digital menu board, workers can provide the services required by customers more rapidly and conveniently. Digital signage, which used to mainly deliver information or provide advertisements, has recently collaborated with media art. And the advanced technologies of Korea have received a lot of attention in the global market. It has gained recognition as a high-quality content that can give comfort to people who have been exhausted because of the continued COVID-19 spread. And it has also emerged as a popular art platform. We look into digital signage, which has played a significant role for the delivery of information amid the untact era.

Korea has faced a lot of difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, including the decrease of export and a trade deficit. However, advanced measures of Korea for infectious disease prevention and control have received a lot of attention in the global market. Korea’s strategy to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic can be divided into three stages, which are testing, tracing and treating. And the advanced solutions for the infectious disease prevention and control have captured the attention of the global society. Schools, which introduced distance learning solutions because of the COVID-19 spread, have restarted in-school learning. And offices of education as well as schools have introduced necessary equipment for the prevention and control of the infectious disease. Also, they have carried out cleaning and disinfection thoroughly in classrooms, cafeteria and other public places to help the students study in a safe environment. Drones can perform disinfection of places that are difficult for humans to make access. Also, it takes less time to spray the sterilizer when using a drone. Therefore, it has been actively used for the disinfection of public places including school buildings and schoolyards. Moreover, a traditional market has become quiet because of the COVID-19 crisis. And a lot of merchants have faced serious difficulties. Aside from the disinfection measure provided by the government, the merchants’ association has carried out disinfection by itself to give a boost to the traditional market. The surrounding streets, subway stations, parking lots, rest areas and restrooms should also have disinfection regularly. And it can contribute to building a safe and reliable environment for the traditional market. We report on the Korea’s strategy, which has contributed to overcoming the COVID-19 crisis and strengthened the nation’s competitiveness amid the post-COVID-19 era.
