Called the “Land of a Thousand HIlls”, Rwanda is surrounded by vast mountains and lakes. It is the production center of Arabica coffee which has captivated people around the world with its balanced harmony of various flavors, and is a country representing rapid growth in East Africa. However, in April 1994, a great tragedy fell upon this beautiful land. It was the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, caused by ethnic dissension. Recorded as the first genocide in history, one million innocent lives were sacrificed in a short period of three months. Rwanda rose up again turning despair into optimism and making it one of the African countries recording steady growth. The Rwandan people remember the victims in April each year, spreading the values of reconciliation and peace to the world. Korea and Rwanda are both countries that have overcome a painful past. Since establishing diplomatic relations in March 1963, the two sides have established various cooperative relations in education, regional development, ICT etc. with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) leading the way. We will hear the story of the Ambassador of Rwanda to Korea, Dalila Yasmin AMRI SUED, who is connecting the two countries based on close and special ties.
