Korean Wave, Hallyu Shakes North Korea
North Korea is no exception to the wave of hallyu. Since it loosened its control over its people following the Arduous March in the late 1990s, hallyu has seeped into the world's most oppressive regime. In this seventh episode of Special Peninsula 24, Thae Yong-ho, North Korea's former deputy ambassador to the U.K., offers insights into the impact of South Korea's popular culture on North Korean society. He also speaks with Im Kwon-taek, a legendary South Korean filmmaker, who directed "The Taebaek Mountains" that sheds light on the reality of North Korea's socialism.
