Foreign Correspondents Ep.251
Global vaccine inequality

The World Health Organization (WHO) has urged world leaders to end the “disgraceful” inequality in global access to COVID-19 vaccines. About 4.5 bil. doses of vaccines have been already administered worldwide. In high-income countries, 104 doses have been injected per 100 people, while the figure drops to 2 doses per 100 people in low-income countries. Vaccination rates also differ greatly from continent to continent, with 90 doses administered per 100 people in Europe and 5.7 doses per 100 people in Africa. In the meantime, vaccine-rich countries are rushing to roll out booster shots to protect their populations from the spread of the Delta variant. But the WHO called for a moratorium on vaccine boosters to enable low-income countries to get more vaccines. In this week’s edition of Foreign Correspondents, we sit down with our panel of journalists to discuss the global disparity in vaccine distribution.
