Foreign journalists reporting on a natural disaster in Henan Province, China were harassed by local residents and received death threats, according to the Foreign Correspondents' Club of China (FCCC). The FCCC said Henan’s Communist Youth League urged the public to report the whereabouts of a BBC news team covering the flood on the ground. The Chinese government accused foreign media outlets of broadcasting “fake news” with ideological bias, saying that they deserved to be “unpopular with the Chinese public.” Many reporters operating in China express concerns about growing restrictions and threats to foreign media in the country. In this week’s edition of Foreign Correspondents, we sit down with our panel of journalists to share their experience in reporting in China and discuss the dangers of fake news.
