With the rapid spread of the highly-contagious Delta variant across the globe, a number of countries are reintroducing tougher restrictions. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has reversed its earlier policy and recommended fully vaccinated people begin wearing masks again. People in Saudi Arabia need to show proof of vaccination to enter schools, stores, cafes and other public places. China has banned unvaccinated residents from accessing public services. New South Wales and other states in Australia have extended a lockdown to contain the spread. Meanwhile, the UK is navigating a different path out of the pandemic, with a roadmap toward living with the virus. Contrary to expectations, the number of new cases in the country has dropped since the government lifted all COVID-19 restrictions on so-called ‘Freedom Day.’ In this week’s edition of Foreign Correspondents, we sit down with our panel of journalists to discuss how countries are responding to the latest surge of infections.
