<Mystery of Asia>

Westerners describe the Asian culture “mysterious.” To Asians, however, it’s just a scientific way of life.
“Mystery of Asia” is a documentary series showcasing the large and small elements of the Asian culture. To foreigners, the topics may seem exotic. But to residents in Asia, these themes are a part of history as well as modern life.
Discover the tradition, soul and wisdom behind the Asian lifestyle.

Part 1- Sema, Dancing toward God
The Sema Dance is a long-practiced tradition in Arab countries that helps its practitioners grow closer to Allah. Those who perform this dance believe in Sufism, a mystic Islamic tradition. The dance is both public, as it can be performed for an audience, and highly private, done in secret. Learn the history behind this tradition and the lengths to which Muslims will go to preserve the dance’s mystic nature.

Part 2- Kumari, from Girl to Goddess
The Nepalese, who live in the middle of Himalayas, worship the widest variety of gods known to man. One such god is Kumari, the only goddess alive in the human form. She becomes deified at age 7 and becomes human again after suffering an injury and bleeding, or after she begins menstruating. Is Kumari god or human? We explore the phenomenon.

Part 3- Fermented Food, the Taste of Nature
Korean fermented foods are special for two reasons: the longer they’re stored, the better they taste. Secondly, as long as you’ve got the know-how, they will not spoil.  Kimchi is the healthiest and most famous fermented food, but there are numerous others. Learn about skate sushi, salted yellow corvine, fermented beans and more. They’re natural, tasty and scientifically proven to be healthy.
