Liquor is one of the oldest beverages invented by mankind. To many Koreans, liquor has brought comfort through times of joy and sorrow. Rice wine has especially been enjoyed in Korea through hardships and happy times. The traditional liquor of Korea reflects the national character of Korea as well, spawning a unique Korean drinking culture. The combination of a group-oriented culture and drinking culture led to soju-beer cocktails and company dinners where drinking is encouraged. The group mentality and energy behind Korea’s drinking culture also played a part in the rapid growth of the Korean economy. The Korean Wave (Hallyu) also includes Korea's drinking culture which is spreading to other parts around Asia. This episode introduces various perspectives about liquor in interviews with sommeliers, traditional wine experts, regular citizens, and foreigners.
