Korea, though more well known as an IT powerhouse with its advanced technology, is also shining in the medical field. In Episode 2, ‘Korea: Hub for State-of-the-Art Medical Technologies,’ we will see K-medicine’s technology that goes beyond simple diagnosis and treatment and evolves into customized total care by combining cutting-edge technologies, such as big data and robots.
The episode features robotic surgery for thyroid cancer at Severance Hospital, which has been recognized enough to be included in surgical textbooks, and reconstruction of the head and neck at Asan Medical Center, where customized 3D-printed bones are created and operated for patients without facial bones. In addition, the know-how of Korean medical staff equipped with cutting-edge medical technology, from the breast reconstruction surgery at Samsung Seoul Hospital, which reconstructs the breast by transplanting the patient's own abdominal tissue, is leading the K-medicine craze.
In addition, we met with doctors from Samsung Seoul Hospital, with its cutting edge gamma knife surgery, used as a treatment for brain tumor patients who cannot undergo open surgery, and doctors from Nanoori Hospital, renowned for its endoscopic spine surgery, in order to learn about the power of K-medicine that are recognized by both medical staff and patients around the world.
