1. South Korea reported 1-thousand-318 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, with 40-percent coming from outside the Seoul area for the first time.

2. Today, South Korea’s vaccine roll out expanded to people in their late 50s. The eligible group are for those between 55 and 59, and will receive Moderna or Pfizer doses. People aged in the early 50s will be vaccinated from August 16th.

3. The South Korean government announced ‘Eligibility Standards’ for COVID-19 Relief Payouts. Eligibility for the next round of COVID-19 relief payments of 250-thousand won is set to be determined based on a household's health insurance premium.

4. President 문재인 on Monday has ordered the swift deployment of the Korean government’s second extra budget to help those hit by social distancing rules. Moon asked for people's understanding that the government cannot give payments to everyone.

5. U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman met China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Tianjin on Monday. The two countries held high-level talks in four months, and are also expected to have discussed cooperation on North Korean issue.

6. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, South Korea won gold in men's team archery. From 1988, when the team event first became an official event, to the 2016 Rio Olympics, Men’s team won five gold medals in eight Olympic Games.

7. South Korea’s weather agency announced on Monday that the number of heatwave days in Seoul this summer is expected to greatly exceed the average level. Steamy heat will continue in the capital region with no relief in sight.

8. In order to respond to the fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the South Korean government has issued an executive order to ‘wear a mask’ on most beaches across the country. At 62 large-scale beaches, drinking and eating are prohibited at night.
