Usually, when we think of the viola we think of one name-Richard Yongjae-Oneil. But here’s one more name to remember.

Violist Ga Young graduated from Korea National University of Arts and completed her master’s degree from Mannes College in New York as the top student. She studied under Sun Wha OH in Korea, and Caroline Levin in America. She has performed a wide range of repertoire including Bach, Stamitz, and Bartok and played in collaboration with many Korean performance groups such as the Busan Philharmonic orchestra and Masan philharmonic orchestra.

She is not acknowledged only in Korea, but across the globe. She had a solo recital in the Carnegie Hall, and performed Glinka Sonata at the Moscow International Music Festival held in Russia’s Kremlin where she received high praises from the international music circle.

She has been trying to approach her audience in various ways. She has held solo recitals every year, and performed in collaboration with other music groups and participated in music festivals such as Lindenbaum Music festival and the Busan music festival.

She has four studio albums out. The first came out in 2009 called “Flor De Tango.” Her second album, “Tango de Carmen" received a lot of spotlight as it was nominated for the cross-over part of Korean Music Awards, which is very rare case for a classical musician. Her third album is titled “Viola Sings” and her forth is “Chanson de Viola.” She also has some singles released as well.
