Dasol KIM is a fairly new name in the classical music world. He is an uprising pianist. Although pianist Dasol hasn’t won big name competitions, his fan base is continuing to grow. Many people come to see him because they have faith in his performances. His debut album “Dasol Kim Plays Schumann” was released about two years ago in May(Deutche Grammaphone label). Why did he pick Schumann? Well, he says that he has a bigger understanding of Schumann than any other composer and he has a special attachment to the music of Schumann.
Schumann is a representative composer of the Romantic Period who was a pianist but injured his arm and had to end his dream. But this helped him focus on music composition. Dasol says that Schumann is very sentimental and that Schumann tried to express his own stories through music. There’s a lot of emotion in Schumann’s music and that it was difficult for him to perform all the techniques with the emotions not losing balance.
In 2014 , Dasol performed the piano solo for Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 when the NY Philharmonic Orchestra came to Korea. After the concert, a staff from the Universal Recording Company offered a record deal, and that’s how this Schumann album came into being.

Although he started the piano at a fairly late age of 11, after 5 years of studying the piano, he went over to Germany and entered the Leipzig National University of music.
He’s going to perform at two concerts at the year-end. He’s scheduled to perform at the Kumho Art Hall on both the 7th and 14th of December.
